Shri Ram was born on the Navami Tithi, Chaitra Shukla Paksha during Madhyana in the Treta Yuga. Also known as Raja Ram, Shri Ram is one of the most revered deities in India.

Shri Rama also known as Raja Ram, is one of the revered deities and hence, his birth anniversary is a significant date for the Indians. He was born on the Navami Tithi, Chaitra Shukla Paksha during Madhyana (at noon on the ninth day during the waxing phase of the Moon in the month of Chaitra). Hence, his birth anniversary is called Ram Navami.

This year, Ram Navami was celebrated on April 10.

Shri Rama belonged to the Suryavanshi Ikshavaku Dynasty in Ayodhya. He was also, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishu. The intersting fact is that Chaitra Navratri, dedicated to Mother Goddess Durga, which begins on the first day (Pratipada Tithi) of the Hindu New year as per the Amavasyant calendar, culminates with Ram Navami.

Devotees of Shri Rama observe a fast on Rama Navami from sunrise to sunrise. And those who live in Ayodhya take a dip in the holy waters of the Sarayu river before paying their Raja Ram.

On Rama Navami, devotees worship Shri Rama’s baby form. Hence, they gently rock a cradle with Ram Lalla’s idol. Apart from performing a puja, devotees also read the Rama Katha to narrate Ram Lalla’s glorious life to little kids, friends and family.
