Fashion Week
A fashion week is a one-week-long event held for the fashion business. In runway fashion shows for buyers and the media, fashion designers, brands, or “houses” present their most recent collections during this event for the fashion industry, which influences emerging trends for the current and next seasons.
The biggest fashion weeks are held in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, which are also known as the world’s fashion capitals. These cities, usually referred to as the “Big Four,” have a distinguished fashion history, a well-established organisational structure, and some of the most renowned fashion designers of the 20th century.
Charles Frederick Worth, a fashion designer, is credited with one of the earliest examples of a fashion week or seasonal collection in history. However, the idea of fashion week actually started in Paris, when advertisers would pay women to wear couture in public. These parades evolved into separate social gatherings, and by 1903 and 1910, several large department shops were hosting their own shows. By the 1920s, these shows had grown to such proportions that, by the 1950s, the New York stores were required to seek a licence in order to use live models.
In order to provide fashion consumers with alternatives to French fashion, the first “fashion week,” New York Fashion Week, was held on July 19, 1943, and the first Paris fashion week started in 1973.
